If you’re thinking about your costume for Halloween, why not be the one that throws the party this year too? Instead of just being the one with the awesome costume who walks around the grocery store to show it off, you need to start planning a shindig right now. Everyone loves to dress up and to be a little naughty on this holiday, and you can be the one to make the night a ghoulishly good one.
Set the Mood
No Halloween party is complete with the right decorations to set the mood. Turn down those lights and add in electric or real candles. These should be flickering around the space, helping to create an eerie glow while they also begin to make everyone look younger than they actually are. You can also stop cleaning for a month before the party to add a nice layer of dust for the space, or you can add in those fake spider webs. Or get real spiders. Drape the furniture and the tables in aged linens or in mummy tape wrapping to continue the theme. Things that jump out from corners are also nice, plus you will want to play spooky music in the background – like Englebert Humperdinck.
Costumes are a Must
Yes, everyone has to dress up, no exceptions. People who don’t dress up need to stay at home and hand out the apples to the trick or treaters, they should not be at a party. You might want to choose a theme for the party or you can have people come in their best costumes and then have a costume party. Of course, these costumes will provide great ice breakers for those who don’t know each other. And the costumes can make for great conversations the next day when you can’t remember who you went home with or what they look like when the mask came off.
Foods to Serve
Your foods should include Halloween candy, of course, but you can also get a little more creative with things like brownies that are shaped like graves and other spooky objects. You might want to choose dip that looks a little gross and some chips that are red, of course. You can get really spooky with the beverages by serving blood cocktails (well, not real ones) and black punch. The more creative you can get, the better the party will be. Even if the food isn’t good. So long as it looks nice and creepy, that’s all that matters.
When you want to have a Halloween party, don’t wait for your friend to plan it this year. Be the one that send the cliché invitations and who allows everyone to come over, even the next-door neighbors. Then watch something spooky with everyone or just talk about how great it would be to be kids again. Together, and slightly drunk, have everyone go TP the boss’ house or trick or treat in the neighborhood.
